Jumanji: The Next Level

Verdict: Jumanji’s latest film is a brand new adventure with leveled-up performances by the cast.
There weren’t high expectations for the reboot of a movie series based on a fictional board game, but Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle became a massive blockbuster. Two years later, the sequel Jumanji: The Next Level is one of the most anticipated films of the year and it brings new challenges for the players to face.

What’s Jumanji: The Next Level About:

When Spencer (Alex Wolff) doesn’t show up to meet his friends, Fridge (Ser’Darius Blain), Martha (Morgan Turner), and Bethany (Madison Iseman) go looking for him. They find the Jumanji game in his basement, which Spencer had managed to save without any of them knowing about it. They go back into the game to find him but Spencer’s grandfather Eddie (Danny DeVito) and his friend Milo (Danny Glover) are also pulled into the game. But it’s not the same game anymore; it’s a new level and the players have to go from arid deserts to snowy mountains to save Jumanji from a new danger and finish the game.

What Works:

Jumanji: The Next Level knows its biggest strength – the game avatars played by Dwayne JohnsonKevin HartJack Black, and Karen Gillan – and uses them to its advantage. The addition of comedy legends Danny DeVito and Danny Glover as new players give Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart the opportunity to give a different performance than what they had done in the last film. Jack Black gets to play Fridge, an athletic young man trapped in an avatar that’s his complete opposite. Although Karen Gillan plays Martha once more, even she gets her moments to shine. Awkwafina plays a new character in Jumanji and she also gives a skilled performance. Nick Jonas has a smaller role but it’s integrated well with the story.
Speaking of the story, there are a lot of surprises and twists in the film. The sequel has more of everything – from dangerous obstacles to new game mechanics and more plot points. There are a lot of throwbacks to Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, which will be an added bonus for the fans of the previous film, although you don’t need to have seen it to enjoy this one.
This sequel uses many of the same elements that were well-received in Welcome To The Jungle – the body-swapped identities, explaining game mechanics to clueless players, and action sequences that aren’t confined by real-world physics. The bickering between Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart is a highlight yet again. Jumanji: The Next Level manages to be similar to the previous film while adding fresh takes that create a delightfully fun watch.

What Could’ve Been Better:

The film has a lot going on. While it’s easy to follow the plot, some parts of the story seem unnecessary.

Why You Should Watch:

Jumanji: The Next Level has action, adventure, comedy, and even holiday cheer, making it a great watch for December. If you’re a fan of any of the actors in the main cast, you’ll be seeing them give great performances in this fun film.
P.S. Remember to stay back for an important mid-credits scene.
Dabangg 3

Verdict: Dabangg 3 is a mass entertainer through and through.
Bhai delivered an early Christmas gift to all his die-hard fans with Dabangg 3. This film acts as both a prequel to Dabangg as well as a sequel to Dabangg 2. Helmed together by Prabhu Deva, this larger-than-life movie has Salman Khan doing what he does best – making a mass entertainer that has the right amount of masala, action, and romance.

What’s Dabangg 3 About:

Chulbul Pandey (Salman Khan) is living his best life as a hotshot cop whose average day involves flirting with his wife Rajjo (Sonakshi Sinha), troubling his brother Makkhi (Arbaaz Khan), and fighting off local goons. Everything changes when he busts a prostitution racket controlled by Bali Singh (Kichha Sudeep). We soon learn that Bali Singh and Chulbul Pandey have a chattis-ka-akda past. We are then taken on a journey where we meet a good-for-nothing dhaakad who goes through a series of absolutely tragic events thanks to Bali Singh that transforms him into the dabangg Chulbul Pandey.

What Works:

The only thing that makes Dabangg 3 work is Salman Khan himself. If you are an ardent Bhai fan, there are plenty of whistle-worthy moments that will make your day, including a fight scene where Salman’s shirt comes off. This is one of the many fight scenes in the movie that are all extravagant and unrealistic but score points on the entertainment meter. Kichha Sudeep owns the screen and makes for a worthy arch-nemesis to Salman’s Chulbul Pandey. You will also be thoroughly entertained by Sallu’s charms and wit.

What Could’ve Been Better:

We would’ve liked it better if the movie was a tad bit shorter. Watch this film for the sake of pure entertainment and masala.

Why You Should Watch:

Dabangg 3 is an absolute treat for all Bhai’s fans. Get ready to chant Hudd Hudd Dabangg as Salman Khan takes over the big screen with his larger-than-life screen presence.

GOOD NEWWZ Full Movie Download

REVIEW OF GOOD NEWWZ

Cast: Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor, Diljit Dosanjh, Kiara Advani, Adil Hussain, Tisca Chopra
Director: Raj Mehta
Good Newwz, starring Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor, is not the most flattering endorsement of the medical profession. The film rests on the horrifying possibility that a reputed fertility clinic would mix up the sperm samples of two men, while each is undergoing IVF with his respective wife.
It’s an improbable but original premise, and with Akshay Kumar attached as star and producer it plays out as a farcical comedy of errors. If you think about it, currently it would appear that there are only two kinds of Akshay Kumar films – the nationalistic/patriotic film, and the lowbrow comedy. Good Newwz has fart jokes, short people jokes, old people jokes, masturbation jokes, sex jokes, and jokes on every low hanging fruit in plain sight. And yet this is no Housefull 5. The truth is that a lot of it is genuinely funny.
Akshay and Kareena play Varun and Deepti Batra, a swish Mumbai couple who’ve been trying to get pregnant for a while. She is desperate to have a baby, and treats it as a sort of mission for the couple to accomplish. He doesn’t have much of a paternal instinct, and likens the pressure in the bedroom to launching a surgical strike.
They’re referred to a specialist doctor couple, the Joshis (Adil Hussain and Tisca Chopra), who recommend in vitro fertilization as a potential solution. But they’re not the only couple having trouble in the baby-making department. The doctors are also treating another pair of Batras from Chandigarh, Honey (Diljit Dosanjh) and Monika (Kiara Advani). You already know what happens next.
The film asks you to suspend disbelief, and rewards you when you do. The scenes between the two couples are crackling, much of the humor stemming from how different they are, and from the issue of the oncoming babies’ ‘ownership’ in this kind of situation. I don’t know about you but I’m bored of watching Akshay Kumar play different versions of the honorable patriot or the conscience keeper of the nation in every other film, so it’s especially refreshing to see him play this elitist jerk who, like his wife, wants to have nothing to do with the loud, unsophisticated Batras. Playing into that stereotype of the over-the-top Punjabis, Diljit and Kiara ham it up sportingly as the fashion challenged couple whose mangling of English words is a source of great amusement to the admittedly shallow Varun.
The film’s first hour coasts along breezily, benefitting from sharp dialogue and winning performances. It’s admirable that the writers take a grown up approach when it comes to talking about bodily functions and biological needs. But it also reveals a deeply conservative and frankly regressive worldview observed in its complete rejection of adoption. “Apna khoon toh aakhir apna khoon hota hai,” I heard uttered at least twice, and cringed as this outdated notion of lineage and legacy continue to be perpetuated. Not surprisingly, the conservatism extends also to the issue of abortion, and troublingly in one scene a female doctor no less, makes a point about childbearing being essential to the female experience.
In the second hour as the humor dries up, the film slips into full-blown melodrama and sentimentality. We watch the thawing of Varun, triggered by an impassioned speech by his wife on the physical, emotional, and psychological impact of childbirth and motherhood on a woman. I think the film lets him off too easily.
There is no question that the humor works better than the emotion in Good Newwz, but director Raj Mehta and his writers do make room to raise pertinent questions about whether men can truly understand and empathize what women go through with regards to pregnancy and childbirth. It asks us also to ponder the very meaning of what makes a parent. These are progressive ideas, and they’re frequently in conflict with the film’s otherwise conservative outlook.
If Good Newwz doesn’t go off the rails when the tone shifts, it’s because the actors stay sincere and committed as the narrative evolves. The heart of the film is its cast anyway. Akshay Kumar is in good form, serving up a reminder of just how funny he can be. There isn’t much heavy lifting expected from Kiara Advani, but she matches the comic timing of her co-stars without trouble. It’s Kareena Kapoor who deserves special mention for rooting her character in believability. Looking like she’s walked straight out a fashion glossy, her Deepti is nevertheless grounded, real, and provides the most honest insight into why it’s so important for her to be a mother. I also think Diljit Dosanjh is terrific as Honey Batra, whose loud exterior hides an unmistakably sensitive core. He’s also not far behind Akshay when it comes to comic timing.
I’m going with three out of five for Good Newwz. There’s a lot to enjoy in the film despite its bumps. I haven’t laughed this hard in weeks. Not a bad way to end the year.

Panipat

Verdict: Panipat is a war feast with Ashutosh Gowariker’s signature style of grandeur.
Ashutosh Gowariker has been MIA in Bollywood since his last film Mohenjo Daro, which released way back in 2016. The filmmaker behind iconic films like Lagaan and Jodhaa Akbar now makes his epic comeback with the historical drama Panipat, which is a fictionalized retelling of the Third Battle of Panipat. While the trailer of Panipat evoked mixed reactions among moviegoers, the film has a lot more to offer. Ashutosh Gowariker brings back his signature style of grandeur with a hint of nationalistic flavor, which appeals to the self-esteems of many Indian audiences.

What’s Panipat About:

The movie begins with the Battle of Udgir where Sadashivrao Bhau (Arjun Kapoor) captures the Daulatabad Fort, which weakens the Nizam’s rule in South India and strengthens the Maratha position over the larger part of India. Back at the Maratha capital in Pune, Peshwa Nana Saheb (Mohnish Bahl) is being condescended by his wife Gopika Bai (Padmini Kolhapure) for giving Sadashivrao too much importance. For a brief moment, the Peshwa keeps Sadashivrao away from the battlefield, giving space for a budding romance between Sadashivrao and Parvati Bai (Kriti Sanon). But a call from the north turns Sadashivrao’s attention to the Durrani army, which is on its way to India led by Ahmed Shah Abdali (Sanjay Dutt). Sadashivrao decides to meet him with full force, leading to the famous battle of Panipat, where the Marathas are betrayed and eventually lose their political stronghold.

What Works:

One of the most satisfying things about Panipat is that Ashutosh Gowariker provides his own touch to the film, rather than ripping off the style of Sanjay Leela Bhansali as period dramas are known to do. Panipat has its own kind of grandeur as is expected from this genre with sets and costumes that complement the era it is being set in. The movie moves at a steady pace with the right amount of scenes dedicated for action, romance, drama, and war. The final battle scene is intense and you even find yourself shedding a tear or two for the fallen Marathas. While Ashutosh Gowariker has taken some liberties with factual consistency, Panipat still makes for a great watch that does not take any sides or try to demean any culture.
From the trailer, both Arjun Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt were being compared to Ranveer Singh from Bajirao Mastani and Padmaavat respectively. Similarly, Kriti Sanon was also likened to Deepika Padukone from the aforementioned films. However, the actors do not rip off any performances and provide their original touch to the characters. In fact, it’s hard to distinguish between Sanjay Dutt and his character of Ahmed Shah Abdali, which is simply Sanju in costume. Arjun Kapoor has a towering presence in the film while Kriti Sanon complements him with her innocent charm.

What Could’ve Been Better:

What gave Ashutosh Gowariker’s previous films their iconic status are the remarkable performances by the lead actors, be it Aamir Khan’s Bhuvan or Hrithik Roshan’s Akbar. While the actors play their parts well in Panipat, none of the performances are particularly extraordinary.

Why Should You Watch:

If you enjoy period films, Panipat makes for a great watch. It will certainly appeal to the patriot in you with its celebration of Maratha pride like none other. Don’t judge the movie by its trailer and catch it in all its grandeur on the big screen.
